Personal Teaching Mission Statement
Teaching global awareness to a help create a community of lifelong learners who are informed and empowered to take action and create change. Purpose: Over the course of my career in Geographic Education I have had the opportunity to participate in some fantastic opportunities to help my growth as an educator. The original intent of this website was to serve as a place to share the materials I have developed, and post resources to help other geography teachers. I know that for many social studies teachers geography was not a particular area of emphasis, and with so many resources out there (many of them not great) it may be difficult sifting through it all to find anything helpful, or sometime even useful. Geography for Geographers is meant to be a collection of tried and true resources and lesson ideas that teachers can use in their own classrooms. Please feel free to use anything on this site for your own classrooms. If you need tests/quizzes/or versions of documents as a word document please let me know and I would be happy to provide them for your use. If you have any questions or ideas please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Please also visit my teaching (www.mrtredinnick.com) website for additional resources. About Me: Originally from Minnesota, I received a degree in Social Studies Secondary Education with a History emphasis from Saint Cloud State University. After a two year stint teaching geography in China I returned to teach in Minnesota and was converted to primarily teaching geography through my involvement with the Minnesota Alliance of Geographic Education. The conversion was completed when I was asked to write a high school Human Geography textbook for English Language Learners based on my experience teaching geography primarily to student who did not speak English as a first language. After 6 years working in private schools in China and Minnesota I moved to Omaha, Nebraska to pursue a Masters in Geography from the University of Nebraska Omaha and teach. I completed my masters in 2019 and continue teaching for Omaha Public Schools while also working as an Adjunct instructor for the Department of Geography/Geology at the university. When I am not teaching or working on consulting work I enjoy traveling, playing hockey, and spending time with my wife Jill.
